BIRTHING SUPERVISION
Here at Elite Family Goldens, our puppies are handled from the moment they are born. Nothing is left to chance. Every breeding is supervised and so is the whelp/birth of each & every baby that we produce. Ready to take mom to the vet for a c-section if needed or if a fading puppy needs medical care. Luckily most often things progress and happen normally. However, I am still in the whelping box with every mom and do not leave her side until she is done and all puppies are doing well. We do this to offer any additional help to mom, as puppies often come to close together for mom to finish cleaning the last. Every puppy is removed from mom for a quick minute right after birth to chart their birth weight and have a color coded collar put on; allowing us to identify similar looking puppies quickly. Then puppy is rushed back to mother for warmth and to nurse. Our mothers and puppies are far too precious to leave the birthing to chance.
BIRTHING AREA
Our pups are born here in the house with us! We set up a quiet room away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house for mom to feel secure and comfortable in. This room is monitored from the rest of the house/ or while we are away by CCTV. We choose to use a full bedroom that has enough room to have a twin sized bed set up in as well. Allowing us to stay close to mom for the whelp and the puppies in their first two very critical first weeks. The Whelping room is stocked with lots of towels, heating pads/lamps, Puppy birth chart, lightweight adjustable identification (different color) collars, calcium for mom, supplements for weak puppies and perhaps one of the most important things... a scale. Puppies are weighed regularly 3 times a day in their first week and twice a day the second week. Often times weight loss is the first sign of something wrong, so we NEVER just wait for signs of distress. For this we monitor all the puppies weight closely.
PUPPY RAISING AND SOCIALIZING
As mentioned above, our puppies are handled from birth. But this is not enough. Our young babies start their learning journey at just 3 days of age. It is at this time that each puppy is started on Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) which transitions into the Puppy Culture program. Combining these two proven puppy raising techniques, they help us but offer you a well adjusted puppy ready to transition into their new home and easily begin training. Potty training is a work in progress as well before leaving for his/her new home. All puppies are litter trained and begin learning to potty outside. While this doesn't mean you won't have to potty train, we have had good success with puppies potty training easier in their new homes. We luckily have enough hands in our family (of all ages) and friends to never fall short of socializing. Socializing goes beyond our family. Being blessed... we never seem to have a shortage of puppy socializers, which means all of our puppies will have met several different friendly strangers.Helping you and your new puppy enter the world happily together right from the start!
